Alright Day 2 in Brazil and we got so much done today! Wedding preparations are in full gear but the bride and groom are still having to work all week. So Ruth and I spent the night with Grace who lives and teaches at PACA: Pan American Christian Academy where Ruth and I both attended school when we lived in Brazil (as did the Portela kids and Karen). Ruth and I had a leisurely morning sleeping until 9:30 and 10:00 respectively. Then we graded some 8th Grammar papers while Grace taught...
...and soon after met up with Grace for lunch in the cafeteria. Being at PACA brought back lots of high school memories--one being the novelty of actually eating in a cafeteria since at CHS we always ate our packed lunches on the floor.
After lunch we spent the afternoon grading more tests. Which was great because with the 3 of us doing it, we saved Grace hours of work that she was able to spend with us later. Also, Aline (Danny's wife, who also teaches at PACA) was able to join us for some grading fun too. We were impressed with her firmness but gracious dealing with a student who came to her rudely arguing about a grade. yup, Aline told her!
Here are some pretty flowers we found at PACA.
Then we took the hour+ PACA bus ride through Sao Paulo to come back to Aunt Betty's apartment. It was like a roller coaster up and down the streets of Sao Paulo through crazy afternoon traffic. Ruth wants to insert that we almost broke our backs and necks every other second of this ride. Imagine constant jostling for an hour and a half. We were good maids though and continued our paper grading even though we were airborne half the time.
When we got home, we started another project for the bride: putting together the favors. Darius and Jenn brought them the special M&Ms they had ordered from the states with a picture of Andre and Grace printed on them. Wow! I tried to take a picture but it is blurry so sorry about that. Anyway we spent several hours putting these together in boxes with the tool and ribbon which made for very cute favors.
Oh and here is the picture I promised of Sweet Lucas. He was a big help while we were doing favors! :-)
Here is a typical view of our family at the Portelas: Everyone with a laptop.
For dinner we had esfihas and Chinese food. yum! And lots of fun altogether as a family!
After dinner we finished up the favor boxes and practiced the song that we are singing together at the wedding. There was lots of laughter and a few tears. Here's the happy Bride, Mom and Dad working hard tying ribbons (notice David not working hard behind them), Taara and Ruth recomposing our music, and some family practicing.
Okay off to bed again! Tomorrow is the Wedding Eve and will be a full day!
I am so so so glad (almost) everyone gets to be there (sorry Karen and Ben!). Your pictures are all so happy and fabulous! Can't wait for tomorrow's post!
