Encounters with Old Friends

It's funny to think that my one year of adventures at the Master's College began more than 5 years ago. August, 2004 was when I was forced into a WOW (week of welcome) group and made to run around Southern California on various scavenger hunts and other ridiculous events. In order to survive the madness, I quickly bonded with a certain Douglas Ford, an unlikely friend, whose crazy ideas and outlook on the world always amuse me.
After our year at Master's, we lost touch for a few years in which time I came back to Tacoma and got my associate's degree and Douglas went through culinary school.
Last summer, I was able to see Douglas again when I was in L.A. He showed me his favorite spots around town including the Grove and the La Brea TarPits where we encountered some Mammoths stuck in the Tar. He also hooked us up with an amazing dinner at the fancy restaurant in Hollywood where he is the sous chef. (Ironically, I don't think he even knew how to pop popcorn when I knew him at Master's!)

So why do I bring up Douglas now? Well, I got to see him this week! He was in Seattle visiting his sister and I got to show him around my town this time. It was fun to show him my favorite places around Tacoma including the glass bridge which is never exlcuded from my Tacoma Tour. Also, in true Tacoma fashion we got a lot of rain the day he was here. Even though I don't get to talk to him often, I'm thankful for Douglas and the friendship that we've established through the years. It was great to make some more memories and have a distraction before the demands of midterms this week!
